Final Song Battle: Danger vs Goodbye Baby

In our final battle between f(x) and miss A, we compare their 2011 comeback songs: Danger and Goodbye Baby.

Thekoreanjjang:         Time for the main event.

KpopEncarta:               this is the championship round right here.  my favorite songs from each group

Thekoreanjjang:        Another tough one.  This is the song that made me go OK f(x) is legit.

KpopEncarta:

vs

I liked this song too cuz it meant I didn’t have to listen to nu abo all the time whenever they went on shows, but even without that little bonus, I really liked this song from the first time I heard it

Thekoreanjjang:         Yup this song is when it all came together for f(x).

KpopEncarta:               of course I have no idea what is going on in this mv lol, but yes this was fx’s true breakthrough song.  triple crown on m! countdown and inkigayo, and picked up a win on music bank

Thekoreanjjang:         True they had their first successful run through the weekly award shows. Now thoughts on goodbye baby.  Man JYP really loves to use the word baby in his titles and lyrics.

KpopEncarta:               hah, but it’s an interesting little intro they have with all of them laying on the ground.  definitely never seen anything like it before

Thekoreanjjang:         Well like in their previous album covers, they always placed an emphasis on their legs.

KpopEncarta:               I want to find the person who decided suzy should wear the cat years and shake their hand.  well played sir

Thekoreanjjang:         This guy…focus please.

KpopEncarta:               you gotta admit, it’s an interesting choice to have only the maknae wear them

Thekoreanjjang:         You mean like an effective one?  There’s a lot of things to like from this performance.

KpopEncarta:               this mv you mean

Thekoreanjjang:         They take off right where they left off with good girl bad girl through their powerful charisma and strong vocals.

KpopEncarta:               true.  that’s miss A’s MO it seems.  well except breathe, that was their “fun” song

Thekoreanjjang:         Touch had a completely different style as well, but yeah this is definitely the style their famous for and why some fans might’ve been a little disappointed with Touch.

KpopEncarta:               touch is different style, but you can still see the charisma there.  it’s just not a dance type track like this and bggg

Thekoreanjjang:         Yeah these fit more in the lines of dance pop.

KpopEncarta:               pretty much.  here are the performances:

vs

only sulli gets away with that hairstyle

Thekoreanjjang:         One of the perks of being an idol.  You saw Jiyeon’s hair in dream high 2.

KpopEncarta:               hell even on other idols that still looks ridiculous.  the advantages of still being in their teens and having that cute image cuz that would look terrible on krystal

Thekoreanjjang:         SM matches their concepts to each member well.

KpopEncarta:               you can see all 5 of them having fun here, playing to the camera a bit

Thekoreanjjang:         Here we have another strong live performance by miss A.

KpopEncarta:               hah I’m still fixated on danger

Thekoreanjjang:         How could you still be on Danger??

KpopEncarta:               I like the song, and I like this performance so I repeated it

Thekoreanjjang:         Well anyways I thought this was another solid song by miss A, but being the last round it makes me wonder is this their best song?

KpopEncarta:               yes

Thekoreanjjang:         Well that’s where we differ yet again.

KpopEncarta:               for me it is anyway

Thekoreanjjang:         I felt that either good girl bad girl or their newest single touch was their best song.

KpopEncarta:               well as we said those are different from what we normally hear

whereas this is clsoer to mainstream

Thekoreanjjang:         While good bye baby is a really good song it does have a lot of similarities in style to good girl bad girl.

KpopEncarta:               for me, this is the song that made me a fan. I love jia’s rap

Thekoreanjjang:         Yeah there was nothing bad about this song. But with danger I sort of saw all the good elements found in their previous songs finally come together in one performance.

KpopEncarta:               true

Thekoreanjjang:         Danger is a song that made me really pay more attention to f(x) for the first time. Where it made me finally say OK they made a great song here and not just a good one.  A true stage where they got the accolades they deserved and really stood tall with their own unique style.  Considering all these points I’d have to give the last round to f(x)’s danger.  In the end thought it doesn’t really change a thing as I had miss A with a 5-3 insurmountable lead.

KpopEncarta:               true, miss A still wins for you

Thekoreanjjang:         This just makes my final tally 5-4 for miss A.

KpopEncarta:               for me, I think I give this to miss A for a 5:4 overall victory as well.  Danger was good for all the reasons you listed, but with goodbye baby it people realize they weren’t just a 1-hit wonder with bggg.  visually, it hit all their strong points as this is the concept that I felt fit each member the best.  Of the two, I’d rather listen and watch goodbye baby

Thekoreanjjang:         That’s a bit surprising to hear from you, but I know what you mean.

KpopEncarta:               but the goodbye baby dance is more interesting to watch

Thekoreanjjang:         Well this wraps up another hotly contested girl group match up.  I’m still looking forward to seeing what f(x) has in store for us with their next comeback concept.

KpopEncarta:               true, and it’ll be interesting to see what miss A’s actual stage performance is like for Touch

Thekoreanjjang:         Yup I can’t wait!

As a whole group, I think Miss A is better. If you compare the vocals as a whole group, Miss A has better versatility, control, and tone. Each member can actually sing and there is no weak link when it comes to vocals. But for F(x), Victoria and Sulli can just barely manage. They usually get the short singing lines or the “rap” parts of the songs which doesn’t really help their case. Amber is clearly better than Krystal at singing yet she is stuck with the “rapper” position. If anything, Luna is the only astounding singer of F(x). When it comes to dancing, each member of Miss A can dance (though Suzy is not as good as her members, she can still dance. Especially since she had less than a year of training!).

In F(x), I’d say the only good dancer is Luna. Victoria has this hype about her but tbh she’s nothing special. All she has is her flexibility. Heck, even Amber is better than Victoria at dancing! When we look at the groups as a whole, Miss A is definitely more well rounded. In fact, all JYP groups are well rounded where as groups from SM always have a weak link. The only real group who had a chance as a well rounded group would be DBSK but we all know how they ended up.

Tbh, if these groups didn’t have the big companies backing them up, I think Miss A would be more popular/successful. F(x)’s songs don’t really have much impact on the general public; its only the SM town fans that really support F(x). Meanwhile, Miss A’s songs are popular (I mean even though Miss A were rookies back then, they won song of the year) and are favored by the general public overall, not just by their actual fans.
