Song Battle Round 1: La Cha Ta vs Breathe

In the first song battle between the two groups, we compare f(x)’s debut song La Cha Ta vs miss A’s Breathe.

KpopEncarta:               Okay so breathe vs La Cha Ta.  Gonna have to go to the tape early for this cuz it’s been a while since i’ve really listened to each song.

vs

Thekoreanjjang:         Same here.  OH this is la cha ta…I remember this now.

KpopEncarta:               Yep.  It’s a pretty good debut song

Thekoreanjjang:         I really forgot about this one.

KpopEncarta:               Krystal being in a room of crystal is pretty awesome.  As is Luna sitting on a moon.

Thekoreanjjang:         Typical of a sm group. I’m not surprised by their emphasis on visuals and good vocal ability, but I’m not entirely impressed with their dance choreography.

KpopEncarta:               It’s hard to tell without watching an actual performance.  We can discuss that in a bit after grading these MVs

Thekoreanjjang:         Though I do find that Amber’s husky rap provides a nice contrast to the other members higher pitched vocals.

KpopEncarta:               Definitely.  The song has a nice beat to it and good flow

Thekoreanjjang:         I LOVE the colorful presentation in breathe.

KpopEncarta:               Definitely a stark contrast with the darker colors in lachata lol

Thekoreanjjang:         Yup and it has a nice catchy beat that would work well in a club.  I like their use of the gas masks as well.

KpopEncarta:               I’ve never been a fan of this chorus

Thekoreanjjang:         Should we check out their live performances then?

KpopEncarta:               Sure.

vs

KpopEncarta:               f(x) sounds pretty good live for being a rookie group during this.  All in all, that was a pretty good stage for them.

Thekoreanjjang:         Yeah Sulli looked like she forgot part of her dance routine near the end, but an overall solid performance.  Like you said this was pretty good for a live performance from a rookie group.  A lot of times rookie groups get a lot of flack for lip-synching their debut stages.

KpopEncarta:               True.  haha gotta give miss A points for creativity by having the backup dancers take them away when they “faint”.  This is definitely a more impressive and creative performance.

Thekoreanjjang:         Dancing and singing at the same time is also incredibly difficult.

KpopEncarta:               This is true.

Thekoreanjjang:         I wouldn’t be surprised if they had been out of breathe, but they pulled it off without a hitch.  As a total performance what makes this match-up difficult is you have a rookie stage vs a more seasoned veteran stage

KpopEncarta:               Really…out of breathe.  you did that on purpose.

Thekoreanjjang:         Haha well you know me.  Back on topic, I felt that miss A’s performance was solid all around.  Whether it be through their vocals, dance, or complete execution of their choreography.  When you compare it to f(x)’s la cha ta, I just see a more well-rounded performance.

KpopEncarta:               I agree

Thekoreanjjang:         Even considering it being f(x)’s rookie debut stage, I’d still give it to miss A for this round.

KpopEncarta:               I’m inclined to agree.  i prefer listening to la cha ta, but i was definitely impressed with miss A’s performance

Thekoreanjjang:         Your final verdict?

KpopEncarta:              Breathe takes this one for me, giving miss A the lead 3:2

Thekoreanjjang:         Same outcome for me as well. I have it 3:2 for miss A.
