Our 4th member battle features a comparison of each group’s maknae: the chic and stunning Krystal, and the kind-hearted and gorgeous Suzy.

KpopEncarta: They both look way too good to only be 17
Thekoreanjjang: Make up is a hell of a thing?
KpopEncarta: I’ve seen vids of both without makeup; it doesn’t even matter.
Thekoreanjjang: Still I’m impressed with how much they’ve achieved at a relatively young age…especially after watching audition shows like K-pop star where people that are not even at the trainee level need so much polishing.
KpopEncarta: They’re both pretty good vocally already. Both of their respective songs made my list for top OSTs in 2011. Listen to them here.
Thekoreanjjang: I agree and their voices are still just developing. I also find it amazing that Krystal was discovered at such a young age.

KpopEncarta: Sica’s the better vocal in the family, but Krystal is the beauty and that’s saying something.

KpopEncarta: that’s a tough one
Thekoreanjjang: Krystal’s Korean American flair has gotten her in some hot water at times with the Korean media.
KpopEncarta: this is true, especially when she was on Kiss and Cry. She caught alot of flack by supposedly talking disrespectfully to her partner, but he came out on Strong Heart later too and explained that they had a close relationship so it wasn’t a big deal.
Thekoreanjjang: What seems normal to us (or at least to me) just doesn’t come across the same way to the more conservative Korean audience.
KpopEncarta: She’s been called rude multiple times by korean media, but if you see her on variety, with her members, with her sister you see her true personality. She’s basicaly Sica lite with that chic outer image and bright personality with those she’s close to. Sica even mentions it during in the SNSD Phuket DVDs, saying she hears that Krystal tries to copy her all the time.
Thekoreanjjang: Haha no one wants to live in their siblings shadow, but at their relative age and stage in their career I feel that Krystal’s achieved more.
KpopEncarta: For sure. she’s even had a few acting roles, something Sica never did until this year unless you count the musical. In that regard too, she’s ahead of Suzy too.
Thekoreanjjang: Krystal’s high kick vs Suzy’s dream high! Lots of good memories in that first season of dream high, but Suzy’s character was never a favorite of mine.
KpopEncarta: While she wasn’t the greatest actress, I still think Suzy caught way too much flack.
Thekoreanjjang: At her age with no acting experience what else could you expect? I agree the media backlash was way too harsh, but i guess this was JYP’s method of trial by fire.
KpopEncarta: Pretty much.
Thekoreanjjang: I still believe she made some strides as the show went on and the show was able to incorporate her inability to act in comedic scenes throughout their drama.
KpopEncarta: But she learned from the experience and got a part in a movie recently.
Thekoreanjjang: I appreciated her ability to laugh at herself as she continued to hone her craft. I wonder when she’ll make her cameo in dream high 2.
KpopEncarta: Yeah Suzy is kind of shy and awkward in real life it seems, based on what you see in variety

KpopEncarta: hah. Well that and she’s admitted on shows before that she doesn’t make friends easily
Thekoreanjjang: I remember that, but she seems to have a strong friendship with IU!
KpopEncarta: She is friends with IU, and other members of her 94′ line of idols: Kara’s Jiyoung, Krystal, 4minute’s So Hyun. 1994 was a good year for idols, as you can see here. Come to think of it, October was a really good month too since both our contestants here are October babies. Check out the other idols born in October here.
Thekoreanjjang: I was a bit disappointed that Jiyeon didn’t show up. Even IU was expecting her there.
KpopEncarta: Haha. Funny that IU’s older than Suzy, but looks younger.
Thekoreanjjang: Yup they got pretty close through dream high. Its also really trippy hearing Suzy call IU unnie.
KpopEncarta: But yeah, these two are definitely the faces of their respective groups, though Krystal does have to share the spotlight a bit more.

KpopEncarta: Pure looks, i think i’d have to give the edge to Suzy. Both can fit into almost any visual mold possible, but Suzy has a more natural beauty than Krystal.

Thekoreanjjang: Vocals, dance, visuals, variety, and acting. I’d have to say I was impressed with Suzy the most . Like we said she has good vocals and dance ability. Sure her acting was weak, but shes worked hard to improve herself. I always tend to favor the ones that seem to work hard through their adversity. I feel that right now she has the highest ceiling with her potential and that she takes the title of best visual maknae.

KpopEncarta: They’re both taking similar routes right now: being an idol for now, and acting on the side. Krystal i think has the better voice at this point. dance is a wash, personality is a wash. Visuals, Suzy takes it, but that’s about it in my mind. I think imma have to give this edge to Krystal right now
Thekoreanjjang: I still think Suzy has a greater impact through her performances over Krystal at this point. Whether that will continue in the future is anyone’s guess, but I’ll take Suzy in this round.
