[Review] MV Rewind: Se7en “When I Can’t Sing” & “Somebody Else”

Se7en recently made his successful comeback to the Korean music scene with his title song “When I Can’t Sing”. Written and composed by Park Jin Young, this track marks the first collaboration project between YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.

Wandering the streets alone wondering “even if I lost everything…would you still love me for who I am”? “When I Can’t Sing” has a stylish piano R&B melody that combines JYP’s distinct musical sense with Se7en’s mellow voice. Fellow YG label mate Big Bang’s G-Dragon also makes a special cameo appearance in the music video. Se7en’s notable solo dance, meaningful lyrics, and sleek execution provide viewers with a powerful performance they won’t soon forget.

Se7en also unveiled his new Korean version of “Somebody Else” as part of his new mini album promotions. YG Entertainment mates Teddy and Big Bang’s Taeyang collaborated to help write lyrics and co-produce this track.

With the realization that his ex-girlfriend is now in love with somebody else, he waits “with the pointless hope that she might look back”. “Somebody Else” begins with a slow nifty electronic guitar intro that quickly accelerates the tempo leading into the chorus with the feel of an upbeat pop track. Se7en’s engaging charismatic vocal presence along with his rhythmic and catchy chorus help to develop a soothing track that Lucky Se7en fans will be sure to enjoy.
